Great Travel Snack: Granola Bars

My kids LOVE granola bars and would eat an entire box in one sitting if I let them. I thought it would be fun to make some granola bars with the kids, they couldn't have been easier to make and they tasted so good! Easy to make granola bars like this are also great for parents looking for snacks to travel with.

Travel Granola Bar Ingredients:

2 1/2 c old fashioned oats

1/3 c honey

4 tbs. unsalted butter (could sub in peanut butter, I wanted these to go in school lunches so went peanut free this time)

1/4 tsp. salt

1/4 c light brown sugar

1/2 tsp. vanilla extract

1/4 c of each mix in (reserve some to press on top)

Easy Granola Bar Recipe Directions:

Heat oven to 350 degrees. Sprinkle oats and any nuts onto a foil lined baking sheet toast them in the oven for 5 minutes. Combine honey, butter, salt, vanilla and sugar in saucepan until butter is melted and ingredients are combined. Combine mixture with toasted oats (and nuts if you have them) in a bowl and mix until all the oats are covered. You can now add in your toppings, if you are using chocolate wait a few minutes for the mix to cool so all the chocolate does not melt. After you mix all the toppings in press into an 8 inch or 9 inch foil lined pan, press any toppings you have left over gently onto the top of the mixture.  Put in the fridge to set for 2 hours. Enjoy! Now you don't need to worry about finding snacks to travel with, instead you can use these easy to make granola bars.
